バードマンは、みつ夫に「自分に得にならなくても、褒められなくても、しな くちゃいけないことがあるんだよ。」と言う。それに対してみつ夫は納得でき ず、パーマンセットをバードマンに返してパーマンを辞めると宣言する。夜、 仲間から水害の救助に行くよう求められるが、みつ夫はもうパーマンは辞めた からと言って断る。しかし、今夜はゆっくり眠れると思いきや、水害で困って いる人たちのことを想像して眠れない。結局、みつ夫はパーマンになって救助 に向かうのである。それを見ていたバードマンは尋ねる。「なんの得にもなら ず、人に褒められもしないのになぜ行くんだい。」みつ夫は「わからない。で も行かずにはいられないんです。」と答える。みつ夫の後ろ姿にバードマンは このように語りかける。「だれが褒めなくても、わたしだけは知っているよ。 君が偉いやつだってことを。」
